For most people, the answer is 3-5 grams of creatine monohydrate per day, taken every day. That's the maintenance range in the International Society of Sports Nutrition position stand (Kreider 2017), and 5g is the simple default that keeps nearly everyone saturated. If you'd rather keep it simple and your stomach prefers smaller doses, skip it. The one real downside of loading is that big single doses can cause mild bloating or GI upset in some people; splitting them across the day with food fixes most of that.
Timing is mostly overrated. Total daily intake and consistency drive 95% of the result. Taking your dose at 7am or 7pm barely moves the needle. If you want to optimize the last few percent, the evidence gives a slight edge to taking it around your workout (before or after) and alongside a meal with carbs or protein, which can modestly improve uptake.
